Fireworks Safety for Your Pets

We hope you enjoy your holiday! Please remember that fireworks (and other loud noises) can be very scary for dogs. In this video (and in the quick tips below) are some tips and tricks for helping your dog feel more comfortable during this time of year as well as keep them safe.

  1.  Make sure that all windows and doors leading outside are closed and locked
  2. Close blinds and draw curtains wherever possible.
  3. Make sure your pet is microchipped in case they bolt and get lost.
  4. Create a “safe space” for your dog to retreat to during fireworks.
  5. SLOWLY and safely get your pet acquainted with sound clips and food rewards (please see the video for more details).
  6. Use calming aids, supplements, or thunder shirts
  7. Never force your pets to “confront their fears” by taking them to places where fireworks will be happening.
